Ireland reached the Rugby World Cup quarter-finals five times (1987, 1991, 1995, 2003, 2011) but has never advanced beyond that stage. Their best performance was reaching the quarter-finals in 2003 when they were ranked second in the world, and they qualified for the quarter-finals again in 2011 and 2015. Ireland has competed in every Rugby World Cup since the tournament's inception in 1987.
