Connacht rugby rose to prominence primarily during the 2015-16 season when they won the Pro12 title under coach Pat Lam, becoming the first Irish provincial side to win a major trophy. This success followed their entry into the Heineken Cup in 2014-15 and marked a turning point for the western province after decades of relative underperformance compared to Leinster, Munster, and Ulster.
