The Ireland rugby captain is the on-field leader of the national team, responsible for tactical decisions and team representation. Selection is made by the head coach in consultation with the coaching staff, typically choosing an experienced player who demonstrates leadership qualities, game intelligence, and respect from teammates. The captain is usually announced ahead of test match windows or tournament campaigns.
