Connacht Rugby was founded in 1886 and competed in provincial rugby before joining the All-Ireland League in 1990, then progressing to the Pro12 (now URC) in 2003. The province experienced significant growth through the 1990s and 2000s, becoming increasingly competitive in Irish rugby's professional era. Connacht reached the Pro12 final in 2016, marking their peak achievement during their rise through competitive divisions.
