Connacht Rugby was founded in 1885 and competed in the All-Ireland League from 1990 before joining the professional Celtic League (now United Rugby Championship) in 2001, marking their rise to elite provincial status. The province won their first Guinness PRO12 title in 2016, defeating Leinster in the final, establishing themselves as genuine contenders in professional rugby.
