The greatest Ireland rugby captains include Brian O'Driscoll, who led Ireland 83 times and won two Six Nations Grand Slams, and Keith Wood, known for his inspirational leadership during the 2000 Six Nations Grand Slam. Other legendary captains are Ronnie Dawson, who captained the 1959 Grand Slam winners, and Peter Whelan from the 1940s. More recently, Johnny Sexton has proven an outstanding leader for the modern era.
