Ireland reached the Rugby World Cup quarter-finals in 1987, 1991, 2003, and 2015, with their best performance being a quarter-final exit in 2015 when they lost to Argentina. The team has never won the Rugby World Cup but has been competitive in recent tournaments, ranking consistently among the world's top rugby nations since the 1980s.
