Connacht joined Ireland's top-tier rugby league (now United Rugby Championship) in 2010 after competing in the second-tier All-Ireland League. The province earned promotion through success in the All-Ireland League Division 1, demonstrating sufficient competitive standards to join the professional interprovincial competition alongside Leinster, Munster, and Ulster.
