Connacht Rugby rose through the Irish divisions by winning the All-Ireland League multiple times in the 1980s and 1990s, eventually securing a place in the newly formed Celtic League in 2003. The province developed a strong academy system and invested in player development, which enabled them to compete at professional level. This progression established Connacht as a sustainable professional rugby region in Ireland's top tier.
