Brian Smith, the former rugby union and rugby league back who represented both Australia and Ireland during his playing career, has died at the age of 59, according to Planet Rugby.

Smith was a notable figure in the sport, having played for the Wallabies before going on to represent Ireland, making him one of a small number of players to have worn the jerseys of two Test nations.

Beyond his playing days, Smith also built a significant coaching career, working at various levels of the professional game and earning a reputation as a respected rugby thinker.
