Ireland has reached the quarter-finals in five Rugby World Cups (1987, 1991, 2003, 2015, 2019) but has never progressed beyond that stage. Their best performances came in 2003 and 2015 when they reached the quarter-finals before losing to France and Argentina respectively. Ireland qualified for the 2023 World Cup in France as a top-ranked team in the world rankings.
