Ireland and Leinster winger James Lowe has signed for Japanese club Tokyo Suntory Sungoliath, confirming his next destination after leaving Leinster.
According to reporting from RTE and Extra.ie, the move has been confirmed following what was described as a protracted exit from Leinster. Lowe had been one of Leinster’s most prominent backs in recent seasons, having qualified to play for Ireland through residency and going on to become a regular fixture in the national side.
Tokyo Suntory Sungoliath are one of Japan’s most decorated clubs and have historically attracted high-profile overseas signings. The move takes Lowe outside of the IRFU’s jurisdiction, which will have implications for his international availability under Ireland’s overseas selection policy.
The departure marks a significant end to Lowe’s time in Irish rugby, during which he established himself as a key player for both Leinster and the Ireland national team under head coach Andy Farrell.
