Ronan O’Gara, the former Ireland and Munster fly-half, has committed his future to La Rochelle by signing a contract extension that will keep him at the French Top 14 club until 2031.

The deal was confirmed and reported by the Irish Examiner, among other outlets, making official what had been anticipated given O’Gara’s success at the Atlantic coast club.

O’Gara joined La Rochelle as head coach and has established himself as one of the leading coaches in European rugby, guiding the club to back-to-back Heineken Champions Cup titles. His continued presence at La Rochelle represents a significant long-term commitment to the French club rather than a return to Ireland’s provincial or national set-up, where he has long been linked with a potential role.

The extension through to 2031 means O’Gara, one of Ireland’s most capped players and record points-scorer at international level, will remain in France for the foreseeable future. He had previously been connected with the Ireland head coach position, but this new deal effectively ends speculation about any imminent return to Irish rugby in a coaching capacity.

The confirmation underlines La Rochelle’s ambition to remain a dominant force in both French domestic and European competition under his leadership.
